Saturday Sky and more...

Hillsboro, Oregon

We took a trip to the Hillsboro Saturday Market and came home with some great home made soap and the cutest crocheted scrubby. The soaps that I had bought are Peppermint Tea Tree Oil, Mountain Lavender, and the top one (whose name I can't remember) has Jasmine and Ylang Ylang in it. The soaps are made right here in Hillsboro by one of the nicest ladies that I have ever met. She even remembered me from the first time I looked at her soaps.

Goodies from the East to the West

Today was a good mail day. These yummy goodies came all the way across country from Necia. What can I say but OMG!!!! I now have no excuse not to try to spin yarn. The learn to spin kit came from Harlem Purls along with the cutest stitch markers. The cute bag came from the Knitting Ewe. Then there is the yarn. Not sure what kind but I love the colors. And of course there were the treats - candies and cookies and coffee. And check out the size of my new coffee mug. So it was indeed a good mail day. Big hugs and thanks to Necia!!!!

Dog Days of Summer

1. Do you knit, or crochet, or do both? How long have you been knitting\crocheting? both - I have been crocheting since the mid 1980s and I have been knitting for only a few years.

2. Have you knit dishcloths or dishtowels before?
yes - And I do use them.

3. What are your favorite cotton yarns? Is there a cotton or linen you’ve been dying to try but have not?
I have only used Sugar & Creme, Cottontots, and Lion Brand Cotton (not Cotton-Ease). I would love to try a cotton/linen blend or some Egyptian cotton. Or any organic cotton.

4. Are there any cotton yarns you don’t enjoy knitting with?
So far I haven't found any that I don't like.

5. What type of needle do you prefer using? (Metal/Wood/Plastic)
Metal and Wood

6. What other projects do you enjoy knitting or crocheting?
I'm in the middle of a sock knitting craze and I crochet alot of doilies and baby items with the crochet thread.

7. Do you have other hobbies or enjoy other kinds of crafting?
Sewing, reading, bead work, and interior decorating. I have my own lil vegetable garden. So far just tomatoes and peppers.

8. What kind of treats do you like? Chocolate? Candies? Nuts?
If it has chocolate in it then I will be happy.

9. What colors are your kitchen and bath decorated in, if any?
The kitchen is some sort of plum color. It was that way when we bought the house back in March of this year. I am trying for an ancient Egyptian theme. The bathrooms - there are 2 1/2 - are seashells (boys bathroom), Asian (half bath), and french (master bath).

10. What are your favorite colors and what colors do you dislike?
My favorite colors include green/blue blends, coral, purple, pink, red, black, camouflage. I am not a big fan of bright neon colors as they hurt my eyes.

11. Do you drink coffee? Tea? Other beverages?
Both coffee and tea. I drink some water (not enough though) but only with Crystal Light added. And I love sweet tea.

12. Do you have any kids (human or pet variety!)?
yes, two small boys (4 years and 19 months)

13. Do you have any allergies?
none that I am aware of but the hubby is allergic to cats

14. Please share 3 tidbits about yourself that you think your pal and other swappers might find odd or interesting.
* I spent 9 1/2 years in US Navy - with 5 years on an aircraft carrier (The USS Harry S Truman).
* I absolutely love hand made soap and my favorite scent is lavender.
* I still play video games. My favorites include the Tomb Raider games and Pokemon.

Sock-it-to-me Sunday

Well, the good news is I have finished one sock of my Jaywalkers. I love how it fits. The bad news is that my "Knee High to A Grasshopper" is no more. Back to being a lil yarn cake. Even in that form, the yarn looks good. But the other good news is I am now about to start the gusset on the second Big Black Sock.

Saturday Sky and more...

A cloudy day in Tigard, Oregon

Sock yarny goodness all the way from Canada by Ms. Pixie Riot of The Pixie Punk Knits! There are 460 yards of yumminess in the "Cool Confusion" colorway. I can honestly say that this is the only "Cool Confusion" as the name of the colorway has been changed to "Real Cool World" but will look just as cool as mine.

Sock-it-to-me Sunday

Well as you can see I got alot done on the "Grasshoper" pattern from the April Kit of the Rockin' Sock Club 2007. Honestly, the pattern is just not working for me. I don't like how the colors show on the instep but love how the show on the sole of the foot. So it may be time for a trip to the frog pond. On the other hand, my Jaywalker is coming out great. So hopefully I will have the first sock done soon. Maybe even this week. Then I can get to the second sock. Plus figure out which pattern to use for the "Walking on the Wild Tide" yarn. I am thinking about doing "Priscilla's Dream Socks" from the Favorite Socks book. But I may do them toe up instead of cuff down.

Monkeys from Canada

Monkey Sock Swap II

Monkeys have arrived all the way from Prince George, British Columbia in Canada. Which is about 14 hours from where I live. I had to look on a map to find it. The only place in Canada that I have visited was Halifax and that was years ago when I was still in the Navy. Little Nicholas is gonna love the stuffed monkey. Right now he is napping but he will get it when he wakes up. The socks fit perfectly. Nathan had seen them and promtly put them on his hands. Check out the cute lil banana coin purse and the lil pink item with the monkey on it tells the time/date. The emery board will come in handy as I am always chipping my nails. And of course stitch markers are always good. So I want to thank Liz of I'm Having a Knit-Fit! for the great package.

Jumping on the Etsy bandwagon

So far, the only things I have listed are some Hogwarts Stitch Markers in all of the house colors. And that includes both the film and book versions of Ravenclaw. I hope to have some more stitch markers up later when I get time to list them. Plus I will be adding some small project bags that will be sewn by me (also when the boys let me).

Sock-it-to-me Sunday

Pattern: Monkey
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock, color Girly Stripe
Needles: US size 1 1/2 (2.5mm)DPNs

Little progress was made on the Jaywalkers and the Big Black Socks. I looked at them and just didn't want to work on them. So I started my socks from the April Kit of the Rockin' Sock Club 2007. The yarn is soooo soft and the first sock is coming along slowly. I don't forsee me finishing this pair before the June Kit comes out. But that's okay, knitting is suppose to be fun. Plus I can only do some knitting when the boys are in bed.

Saturday Sky

Saturday Sky from Tigard, Oregon
It had been raining all day here in Hillsboro. So the boys were cooped up inside watching the movie Cars. And I went to my first meeting with the local crochet guild. It is the only Oregon chapter of the Crochet Guild of America. Mettings are held on the second saturday of each month at the Joann's craft store located on Pacific Highway in Tigard just right off of Hwy 217.

June 1st thru August 31st

So here is my list for the Southern Reading Challenge started by Maggie of Maggie Reads. The challenge started on June 1st and goes until August 31st. The challenge is to read 3 Southern books by Southern authors. Yeah, there are 5 books listed only because I had problems picking only 3 of them. I already have all of these books so I don't have to buy any for the challenge.

The Firm by John Grisham
A Time to Kill by John Grisham
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Sock-it-to-me Sunday

Alot of progress was made this time. I have completed the leg on the second Monkey sock and also the gusset on the first Jaywalker sock. I even made some progress on the Big Black Sock. So not too bad for trying to knit with two small boys wanting attention. Plus I remember that I still have to finish a small project for the Chief in time for Father's Day. I can't show any pictures yet since I don't want him to see what I am knitting. It's a secret. Secret squirrel knitting.

Saturday Sky and more...

Saturday Sky in Hillsboro, Oregon

Back to my crochet roots (come to the dark side, we have cookies) with this little doll. The one sitting on Nathan's lap. This little one did not take me that long to crochet. Just alot of yarn. But it will be going to a new home in Nebraska.
